WHO WE ARE
Our mission is to empower Jews to take ownership of their heritage and to cultivate tomorrow’s leaders for the Jewish world.
You know how you have this friend that you don’t need to say exactly what you mean but he just gets you? That person who grew up like you, whose family immigrated here, just like yours, who hustled to make it in America? Those stories of survival and feeling just a little bit different from your peers and embarrassing school lunches with weird food that your mom made, all resonate with that person, right? They just get you.
That’s what Roots is. Roots is a new kind of Jewish non-for-profit organization that doesn’t try and tell you who you should be or what you should know. We get you. Because we are you.
We don’t claim to have the monopoly on what being Jewish is; we just want to share with you what we know (and between our awesome laid back Rabbis and captivating teachers, we know a lot!). We want to have life altering experiences together and use our traditions to build a sense of community that genuinely cares about one another and strives to be successful in our work life, family life and social life.
At Roots, you can get a sense of who you are, where you come from and learn about this roadmap that was created thousands of years ago to give you calmness, clarity and bliss. There are some pretty powerful messages in that first Jewish book that has survived and thrived for over 3000 years.
We come from the same neighborhood you come from, with the same experiences you had. We are Jewish not because we went to Yeshiva, but because we feel it in our veins, it’s in our blood, driving us to satiate that curiosity. We are Jewish because our parents are and our children will be. But what does that mean? Why do we follow these traditions? What’s the point? These are the kinds of questions you ask and discuss at Roots.
Roots is the place you wish you had growing up, the place that made you feel like you can ask anything and no one would judge you. You didn’t know what all those Hebrew words meant or what those Jewish prayers were and you didn’t feel comfortable asking because you felt those around you knew more and would judge you for not knowing. It’s time to discover your Roots.
We are here for you 24/6.
This is where all the magic happens.
